Purpose: Coordinates the educational and programmatic activities of ASCPT’s scientific sections
Tasks:
- Provide a forum for members to network and share ideas and resources
- Determine the needs of section members
- Develop and recommend ways that sections can be responsive to member needs
- Work with the Scientific Program Committee to:
- Assist in the direction of the scientific programming at the Annual Meeting, submitting symposia and workshops for consideration
- Identify, solicit and invite speakers for the Annual Meeting
- Coordinate the solicitation of abstracts from the sections for the Annual Meeting
- Identify abstract reviewers from each section
- Respond to requests for information specific to the sections expertise
- Work with the Membership Action Team to identify and solicit potential members
- Recommend, review and monitor criteria for the formation and dissolution of sections
- Recommend nominees for ASCPT’s scientific awards
- Choose four people from the pool of members who have been nominated by their sections to sit on ASCPT’s Nominating Committee. Each section can nominate one of its members to be considered for this important committee, although a section cannot have a member on the nominating committee for two years in a row.
Time commitment: 8 hours of meetings/calls; 3-5 hours outside of meetings
Typical schedule:
Three conference calls from June through December
1.5 hour meeting at the Annual Meeting
Email communication throughout the year
Other considerations: Each member of the committee acts as a liaison to two sections, communicating or soliciting feedback as necessary from the sections’ leaders. With the recent section re-organization, the time commitment needed from this year’s CCSS members might exceed the typical amount.
