Government Affairs Committee

Purpose:
Identifies, discusses, tracks and, as appropriate, acts on funding or advocacy issues that are important to the discipline

Tasks:

  • Solicit input from the board and from the members on priority advocacy, funding, and regulatory issues that are of high concern across the discipline
  • Develop and prioritize an agenda of issues on which to take direct action, including those which should be monitored, and developing criteria for placement on the agenda
  • Develop brief position papers for board approval of official positions on selected issues.
  • Monitor key issues to determine whether and which actions might be taken
  • Act as a Rapid Response Team to take action, as necessary
  • Working closely with the CEO, identify and cultivate relationships with other associations and organizations with whom it makes sense for ASCPT to collaborate
  • Report and discuss in a meeting at the Annual Meeting the committee’s activities and plans for the coming year, building interest in the committee’s activities and soliciting members’ involvement in the process

Typical schedule: The committee meets periodically throughout the year through conference calls or e-mails to monitor the agenda and to plan action, as necessary.

Other considerations: Ideally, the committee would have among its members people from the academic, industry and regulatory sectors to represent the diversity of clinical pharmacology issues. It should also have the ability to reach beyond its composition to experts on the selected issues.
