Dr. Michael Maitland to Receive Leon I. Goldberg Young Investigator Award at 2012 ASCPT Annual Meeting
Alexandria, VA (December 15, 2011) — Michael Maitland, MD, PhD, has been selected to receive the Leon I. Goldberg Young Investigator Award at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT).
This award recognizes scientists in the field of clinical pharmacology for early, significant career achievements. It was created in 1986 in honor of Leon I. Goldberg and his many contributions to ASCPT.
ASCPT will present the award to Dr. Maitland on March 17, prior to his lecture.
Dr. Maitland is a medical oncologist and clinical pharmacologist at the University of Chicago where he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Assistant Director for Clinician Education in the Center for Personalized Therapeutics. He earned his PhD and MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill–Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Maitland’s research has focused on metastatic cancer and the use of biomarkers and novel clinical trial designs in developing experimental treatments. His expertise on cancer therapeutics has been widely recognized with an American Society of Clinical Oncology Young Investigator Award in 2006 and the Cancer and Leukemia Group B Foundation Faculty Clinical Research Award in 2007. Dr. Maitland is an editorial board member for Clinical Cancer Research, and serves as a reviewer for many scholarly oncology and pharmacology journals. He has chaired numerous sessions on advancing cancer therapeutics at national and international meetings.
