ASCPT Names Sheiner–Beal Pharmacometrics Award Recipient
Alexandria, VA (December 15, 2011) — Malcolm Rowland, DSc, PhD, will receive the Sheiner–Beal Pharmacometrics Award at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT).
The Sheiner–Beal Pharmacometrics Award was established in 2011 by the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. The award honors Dr. Lewis B. Sheiner and Dr. Stuart Beal, pioneers and leaders in the field of pharmacometrics, and acknowledges scientists who are researching and advancing the application of pharmacometrics to improve drug development.
ASCPT will present the award to Dr. Rowland on March 15, 2012, at its 113th Annual Meeting, prior to his lecture.
Dr. Rowland is Professor Emeritus and former Dean of the University of Manchester’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is former vice president of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). Dr. Rowland has received numerous awards recognizing his work in physiologically based pharmacokinetics, including the 1994 American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Research Achievement Award in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism, the 2000 Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientists Award, and the 2011 Host-Madsen Award (FIP). He has also received honorary doctorate degrees from the Universities of Athens (Greece), Poitiers (France), and Uppsala (Sweden), and Honorary Membership, Royal College of Physicians (London). He is a Fellow of AAPS, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Dr. Rowland is a former editor of the Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics. He has published more than 300 scientific articles and book chapters.
