ASCPT Announces Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award Recipient
Alexandria, VA (December 15, 2011) — Peter Honig, MD, MPH, has been selected by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) as the 2012 Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award recipient.
This award, established in 1979, honors individuals who have provided significant contributions of time and expertise throughout their membership with ASCPT, and recognizes those who inspire a culture of leadership through their examples of exceptional service.
ASCPT will present the award to Dr. Honig on March 14, 2012, prior to the opening session of the 113th Annual Meeting at the National Harbor in Maryland.
Dr. Honig is head of Global Regulatory Affairs at AstraZeneca. He has specialized in clinical trial design, drug regulation, and safety assessment for more than 20 years, particularly in his role as Director of the Office of Drug Safety at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. Having held senior advisory positions at many prestigious pharmaceutical organizations, such as Merck & Company, Dr. Honig has consistently lent his leadership expertise to ASCPT. As a 20-year member, he has contributed to the Society’s boards, Scientific Sections, task forces, and committees. He is a Past President and has chaired the Pharmacoepidemiology, Drug Safety, and Outcomes Research (now Drug Safety) Scientific Section. Dr. Honig is also an Associate Editor for ASCPT’s journal, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Since 2002, Dr. Honig has served as the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America representative for the International Conference on Harmonization Steering Committee. He is an elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a widely recognized author and lecturer.
