McNeil Professor in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics to Receive Oscar B. Hunter Memorial Award
Alexandria, VA (March 2, 2011) – Garret FitzGerald, MD, has been selected by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) as the 2011 recipient of the Oscar B. Hunter Memorial Award in Therapeutics.
This preeminent scientific award honors individuals for outstanding achievements in the field of clinical pharmacology. Established in 1955, the award acknowledges scientists who have influenced and mobilized clinical pharmacology education, drug research and patient care throughout their careers.
ASCPT will present the award to Dr. FitzGerald on March 5, 2011, at its 112th Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas. Dr. FitzGerald will deliver a lecture titled “Clinical Pharmacology and the Emergence of Translational Medicine and Therapeutics.”
Dr. FitzGerald is the Robert L. McNeil Professor in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, the Chair of Pharmacology and Director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Pennsylvania. His laboratory focuses predominantly on prostaglandins and their inhibitors, integrating work in cells and model systems with mechanistic studies in humans to elucidate mechanisms of drug action, physiology and disease. He also works on the role of peripheral molecular clocks in cardiovascular biology, metabolism and aging.
