Leadership Pathways

There are many opportunities to get involved in ASCPT. Below are just four examples highlighting how some of our members have become leaders. Get involved in ASCPT and discover your path to leadership!

  Saskia de Wildt, MD, PhD
Erasmus MC Sophia Children's Hospital
Current vice-chair of the Special Populations Section and member of the ASCPT Board of Directors

“My PhD supervisor gave me the opportunity to go the ASCPT Annual meeting from early on in my PhD studies. By presenting at the Meeting, I got to meet many other ASCPT members and joined the pediatrics section. In a natural way, I was led into volunteering by recruiting new members, reviewing for CPT and reviewing abstracts. My mentors have largely stimulated me and provided opportunities to get involved. Since I got involved, I have reviewed papers for CPT and abstracts for the Annual Meeting, served as faculty for the Trainee Luncheon, was a member of the Membership Action team and am currently vice-chair of the Special Populations Section. Rewards for my service to ASCPT include management skills, insight into the workings of a professional scientific society, which I can use for my other volunteer work in other societies, and an enlarged professional network.”

Deanna L. Kroetz, PhD
University of California, San Francisco
Past member of the ASCPT Board of Directors
Current member of the Scientific Awards Selection Task Force
Past member of the Strategic Planning Task Force

“I was first asked to be on the Program Committee by my colleague Janice Schwartz.  This was my first introduction to ASCPT and from that point on I was hooked!  Volunteering in ASCPT has been both fun and rewarding.  The satisfaction of having a voice at the table on such issues as clinical pharmacology education is important to me.  The ability to shape the future of the discipline and the Society influences how I approach my own teaching and research.  I have established a number of important research collaborations through my involvement in ASCPT.  The Annual Meeting provides a forum for interacting with colleagues and for meeting potential postdocs and faculty recruits.”
