Communities of Practice

ASCPT recommends the following communities of practice to help our members in these specific areas.

Pharmacogenomics Research Network – For more information on Pharmacogenomics, go to the Pharmacogenomics Research Network.   This network’s mission is “to advance our knowledge of the genetic basis for variable drug responses.”

International Transporters Consortium – The International Transporters Consortium was created after the FDA’s Critical Path Initiative launched in 2004 that resulted in advances in membrane transporters.  Read this CPT article to learn more about the International Transporters Consortium.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacometrics - For further information or to become more involved in this area, please consider joining ASCPT’s  Pharmacometrics and Pharmacokinetics Scientific Section.

  • Pharmacokinetics is the action of drugs in the body over a period of time, including the processes of absorption, distribution, localization in tissues, biotransformation, and excretion.
  • Pharmacodynamics is the study of how a drug acts on a living organism, including the pharmacologic response and the duration and magnitude of response observed relative to the concentration of the drug at an active site in the organism.
  • Pharmacometrics considers statistical and mathematical approaches to modeling drug, disease, and trial information to aid drug development and regulatory decisions.  ASCPT’s Pharmacometrics Task Force works to promotes pharmacometrics within ASCPT.

The Biomarkers Consortium - The Biomarkers Consortium works towards rapidly identifying, developing, and qualifying high-impact biomarkers.  Go to The Biomarkers Consortium website to learn how you can become more involved.  ASCPT is a member of The Biomakers Consortium.
