Special Populations (SPO) Scientific Section
The Special Populations scientific section is a community of members within ASCPT whose focus is on the pharmacological and therapeutic needs of children, from conception through adolescence; women who are planning to become pregnant, are pregnant or are post-partum; and geriatric patients. Applicable pharmacological tools (molecular pharmacology/pharmacogenetics, pharmacometrics, and biomarkers/imaging) are utilized to understand the mechanisms of drug response, safety, toxicity and sources of variability in these measures across the developmental spectrum and in the presence of organ dysfunction.
