More than 1,200 registrants made the ASCPT 2005 Annual Meeting a resounding success! Held in Orlando, Florida March 2-5, the meeting brought together top pharmacologists from around the globe to present the latest scientific findings in bringing safe and effective medicines to patients and society. Spanning the Continuum of Discovery, Development, Regulation, and Utilization (DDRU)-the theme through which the ASCPT strategic plan is being put into practice-was introduced and showcased throughout the program as investigators in pharmacology presented symposia, workshops, and more than 360 posters. Rounding out the program were State of the Art and award lectures, Meet the Experts sessions, and special sessions for trainees and future leaders in the discipline. A special program, "The NIH Pharmacogenetics Research Network-Five Years of Progress" was held in cooperation with the Pharmacogenetics Research Network. Additionally, ASCPT's biennial Clinical Pharmacology Curriculum Review course was held just following the meeting. The presidential gavel was passed on to the 2005-06 ASCPT President Peter Honig, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety, Merck Research Laboratories. Stephen Spielberg, MD, PhD, Dean, Dartmouth Medical School was introduced as president-elect.
