2006 Annual Meeting Overview
The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) held their Annual Meeting at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Maryland, March 8-11, 2006. The international meeting attracted more than 1,200 participants who represented 27 different countries. The meeting also included an exhibit hall with representatives from 39 companies. A spectrum of topics relating to the continuum of drug discovery, development, regulation and utilization was discussed.
The scientific program focused on cutting-edge presentations that increased professional development. State of the Art lectures included a dynamic seminar on glucose regulations in diabetic and non-diabetic patients by Robert A. Rizza, MD, an explicit talk on new discoveries and challenges in stem cell research from John D. Gearhard, PhD, and an evaluation of personalized medicine from a regulatory point of view by Janet Woodcock, MD.
Seven scientists were honored for their outstanding advancements in clinical pharmacology. Other areas of discussion included two featured speakers who made presentations on biomarkers and cancer chemotherapy treatments. The meeting incorporated more than 240 poster presentations, six Meet the Experts sessions, seven symposia, six workshops, 48 oral presentations and a public forum. In addition, the British Pharmacological Society presented a special workshop in celebration of their 75th anniversary. The ASCPT Annual Meeting was a dynamic educational conference that explored the spectrum of clinical pharmacology.
