Masako Nakano, MD, PhD

The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities.

ASCPT is proud to recognize Dr. Masako Nakano as the January Member of the Month. 

Masako Nakano, MD, PhD, is a Senior Medical Advisor for Eli Lilly and Company Japan K.K. in Kobe, Japan. She joined ASCPT in 1994 and currently serves on the Scientific Program Committee and as Vice Chair for the DDR scientific section.

Since clinical pharmacology is a unique scientific discipline and organizations have a limited number of clinical pharmacologists, ASCPT has provided her with the opportunity to interact with other experts in her own area.  She says that it is also “an efficient way to keep up with the science, regulatory and political changes.  It also provides opportunities to get to know new people, and expand my network.”

She is most energetic about planning for and conducting Phase I studies.  She says that “it is always exciting to see new data generated for the first time.”  Although there are often predictions from non-clinical or other clinical studies, she states that “it is always interesting to find out what happens in human or the special population.”  

Looking toward the future, she foresees that many more biomarkers will exist in drug development which will lead to a more efficient development process.
