ASCPT Member of the Month

Member of the Month: Andrea Gaedigk
Andrea Gaedigk, PhD
The ASCPT Member of the Month—a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month ASCPT highlights ONE member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. We hope you enjoy learning about your fellow members and always encourage your participation in Society events and activities.

ASCPT is proud to recognize Andrea Gaedigk, PhD, as Member of the Month for May.

Dr. Gaedigk has been an active member of ASCPT since 1998. Currently, she is chair of ASCPT's Molecular Therapeutics Scientific Section, as well as a member of the Pediatric and Maternal Section and an active member of the ASCPT membership committee.

Dr. Gaedigk is Associate Director, Section of Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Her area of focus is pharmacogenetics/genomics, which she notes, "has been an explosive field of research and has significantly contributed to our understanding of the underlying genetics of drug metabolism and disposition. It is amazing how rapidly this field has evolved over the past decades: from single gene approaches to the analysis of gene networks, microarrays and whole genome scans … The emerging field of pharmaocometabolomics holds many promises to better understand the fate of drugs and their metabolites."

Dr. Gaedigk's enthusiasm about her research also carries over to her leadership and her experiences as a member of ASCPT. "ASCPT brings together experts from a variety of disciplines to cover every aspect of clinical pharmacology from regulatory affairs all the way to bench and translational research. This mix of interests and expertise brings an unprecedented wealth to the society in general and the annual meetings in particular. ASCPT is a nationally renowned organization and a great platform for scientific exchange. Probably less known, however, is the society's devotion to education and individual career development. ASCPT gave me many opportunities to actively participate and thereby generating invaluable milestones and experiences in my career."

Thank you, Dr. Gaedigk, for your valuable leadership in ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
