ASCPT Member of the Month

Christine A. Haller, MD |
The ASCPT Member of the Month—a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month ASCPT highlights one member on our web site who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each edition of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (CPT). We hope you enjoy learning about your fellow members and always encourage your participation in Society events and activities.
ASCPT is proud to recognize Christine Haller as the May Member of the Month.
Dr. Haller is the Director of Global Safety at Amgen and has been an active member of ASCPT since she attended her first ASCPT Annual Meeting in 2001. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Therapeutic Drug and Toxicology Monitoring Scientific Section and has been a member of ASCPT's Scientific Program Committee since 2004. Dr. Haller serves as a reviewer for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) and has had her research published in CPT more than half a dozen times.
Dr. Haller's research has focused on the use of dietary supplements and she is certified in both Clinical Pathology and Medical Toxicology. She has received grants from the NIH and the FDA. Her most recent grant, in 2005, was the Dietary Supplement Safety Surveillance Program Grant from the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Haller believes the future of clinical pharmacology is very exciting because of the promise of individualized medicine. "The concept of tailoring patient drug therapies based not only on his or her genotype of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters, but also on individual factors such as sex, body weight and composition, and dietary and social habits is gradually being realized" says Dr. Haller. She adds that "the conventional therapeutic approach, which is largely empirical, will be replaced by a new patient-specific paradigm that will hopefully improve medication efficacy and reduce adverse drug events. It is an exciting time to be involved in the field of clinical pharmacology as these great strides are being made, and more progress awaits on the horizon."
Thank you, Dr. Haller, for your valuable leadership and your commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
