ASCPT Member of the Month

Member of the Month: Kathleen A. Neville, MD
Kathleen A. Neville, MD

The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities.

ASCPT is proud to recognize Kathleen Neville as the July Member of the Month.
Dr. Neville is the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Divisions of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Pediatric Pharmacology and Medical Toxicology at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Missouri. She is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

As a pediatrician, Dr. Neville is most excited by the area of pediatric clinical pharmacology. "The study of medications in children has come such a long way, but there is still so much to be done. There are so many areas within pediatrics that we as clinical pharmacologists can make a significant impact. I find it exciting because I think if you can make a difference in the lives of children and their medical treatment, you can have a significant impact on the future."

Dr. Neville credits ASCPT for providing opportunities that may not have been presented otherwise. "The unique structure and collegial nature of ASCPT, which encourages clinical pharmacologists from all backgrounds and levels of training, has allowed me to interact and work with people that I wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity to even meet." Dr. Neville has given back to the organization in many ways, participating in the Scientific Program and Education Committees. She is involved in ASCPT's new Mentoring Program as a mentor and contributes to Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics as a reviewer. She feels that her interaction with volunteers on various committees has benefited her both professionally and personally and notes, "I have also really appreciated working closely with the ASCPT staff. For me, they have made volunteering for the organization easy and enjoyable."

Thank you, Dr. Neville, for your valuable leadership, your continued efforts as Vice Chair for Continuing Medical Education on the Education Committee, and your commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
