ASCPT Member of the Month

The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities.
ASCPT is proud to recognize Dr. Karen J. Klamerus as the November Member of the Month.
Dr. Klamerus is a Senior Director of Clinical Pharmacology at Pfizer, Inc., in San Diego, CA, and is currently a member of the Society's Education Committee to help fulfill the Society's mission and goals.
She has worked in industry since 1988. Since that time, she has had many professional accomplishments, including directing development plans, managing multi-million dollar budgets, obtaining a patent, authoring final clinical study reports for submission to Regulatory Authorities, and developing an ocular modeling program.
She speaks highly of her volunteer role with ASCPT: "whereas most organizations have cycles of greatness, I have found ASCPT to experience minimal fluctuations in the caliber of its offerings. The Society draws people who are passionate and year after year strive for improvements that are tangible." She has been attracted to the Society, in part, because of the leaders in the organization: "those in leadership positions realize the value of mentoring and engaging new members--so thinking is stretched with broad perspectives. Engaging members with varying years of experience provides not only diversity but succession stability. This has allowed the Society to continue to peak the interest of the membership and maintain respect as a high caliber organization."
She has enjoyed her volunteer role so much that she encourages other members to get involved: "I challenge members to grow with the Society because there is a place for everyone's expertise. Just give it a try."
