ASCPT Member of the Month

Member of the Month: Anne Nafziger, MD, MHS

The ASCPT Member of the Month—a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month ASCPT highlights ONE member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We hope you enjoy learning about your fellow members and always encourage your participation in Society events and activities.

ASCPT is proud to recognize Anne Nafziger, MD, MHS as the December Member of the Month. Dr. Nafziger has been an active member of ASCPT since joining in 1996. Dr. Nafziger has served as a member of the Scientific Program Committee as well as the serving as the Chair for the 2003 Trainee Luncheon at the Annual Meeting. She also served as the Co-Chair of the 2004 Women's Health Symposium for ASCPT. She is currently serving as a member of ASCPT's Membership Committee and has been an ongoing contributor of her time, talents and resources to ASCPT.

Dr. Nafziger is Medical Director of the ORI Drug Development Center at the Ordway Research Institute in Albany, NY. Her main interests are in sex differences in drug metabolism, the pharmacogenetics of cytochrome P450 (CYP) metabolism, and preventive medicine with a focus on cardiovascular diseases, obesity and cancer prevention.

Dr. Nafziger finds her work in pharmacogenomics/pharmacogenetics tremendously exciting, "It offers the possibility of developing drugs in a way that offers the potential to predict (and therefore limit) toxicity as well as enhancing efficacy." She believes there is still much to learn, "but I think the really exciting work will be in taking our research into the clinical domain - not clinical research, but clinical medicine."

Dr. Nafziger sees the opportunity to network with colleagues as major benefit of belonging to ASCPT "My membership in ASCPT has given me access to a wonderful network of colleagues." Dr. Nafziger sees the Annual Meeting as an excellent opportunity for trainees, "The Annual Meeting is where trainees get to meet some of the giants in the field, they receive personalized feedback on their work, and they have opportunities to explore career choices. Such opportunities are more limited in other disciplines."

Dr. Nafziger, thank you for your valuable leadership and your commitment to ASCPT and the discipline of clinical pharmacology!
