ASCPT Member of the Month

The ASCPT Member of the Month is a forum to recognize and thank a member of ASCPT who has supported the Society's endeavors. Each month on its web site, ASCPT highlights one member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty! We also highlight the Member of the Month, along with two other members, in each issue of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. We hope you will enjoy learning about fellow members and as always, encourage your participation in Society events and activities.
ASCPT is proud to recognize Mr. Robert "Bobby" Thompson, PA-C, CCRC, as the December Member of the Month.
Bobby Thompson, PA-C, CCRC, is the Director of Phase I Operations at the Center for Clinical Trials Research at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.
He is among the first physician assistants in the country. In 1971, he attended the Duke University PA program and remained at Duke on the faculty in the Division of Nephrology until 1980.
In 1981, he accepted a position at the University of Florida's Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, where he stayed for two years until he joined Besselaar and Associates as Operations Manager in Phase I clinical trial activities. After successfully constructing and running a Phase I Unit, he was recruited back to the University of Florida to spearhead the development of an Academic Phase I Unit.
Along with his spouse, Dr. Connie Stone, they have built a 48 bed unit and operate it using industry models and principles including using a centralized IRB (WIRB) for industry and Biotech sponsors.
Mr. Thompson has also participated at the ASCPT Annual Meeting as a long-time exhibitor: "I sincerely believe that of all the organizations I belong to and exhibit at, ASCPT has absolutely the best fit of industry and academic folks around. One can simply bounce an idea off of any member and the answers abound. The culmination of our ideas and interactions leads to quicker drug approval."
