RECEIVE LEON GOLDBERG YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD

American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Will Honor Dr. Piquette-Miller at its Annual Meeting in Baltimore

(Alexandria, VA) — Micheline Piquette-Miller, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, has been selected by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) to receive the 2006 Leon I. Goldberg Young Investigator Award.

An Ontario, Canada resident, Piquette-Miller will receive the award on Friday, March 10, 2006 during the ASCPT annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Piquette-Miller will also present a lecture entitled "Regulation of ABC Drug Transporters in Health and Disease and Implications on Drug Response," at the meeting on March 10, 2006.

Dr. Piquette-Miller received her BS and PhD in Pharmacokinetics from the University of Alberta, then went on to receive her Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University of California in San Francisco. In 1996, Dr. Piquette-Miller began as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and in 2001 was promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. Piquette-Miller was recently named the Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toronto.

Much of Dr. Piquette-Miller's research focuses on understanding the regulation of drug transport proteins in disease states and its impact on drug response.

Dr. Piquette-Miller's research has been supported by grants and awards obtained from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, National Cancer Institute of Canada, Rx&D Health Research Foundation and Ontario Cancer Research Network.

Since becoming a member of ASCPT in 1996, Dr. Piquette-Miller has served on the board of directors, as well as chair of the Pharmacogenetics and Molecular Pharmacology Section of ASCPT. In addition to being an active member of ASCPT, Dr. Piquette-Miller is also president of the Canadian Society of Clinical Pharmacology (CSCP) and is on the executive council of the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS).

The Leon I. Goldberg Young Investigator Award recognizes and encourages young scientists who are active in clinical pharmacology. The award was named for Leon I. Goldberg in honor of his many contributions to ASCPT.

Members of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics are leading the development of new drugs and defining best practices for drug usage.
