Professor Emeritus Jean D. Gray to Receive Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award

American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Will Honor Gray at its Annual Meeting in Anaheim

(Alexandria, VA) – Jean Gray, MD, FRCPC, Professor Emeritus - Medical Education, Medicine and Pharmacology, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada has been selected by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) to receive its 2007 Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Gray will receive the award on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 during the ASCPT Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California.

Dr. Gray received both her BSc in Chemistry and her MD at the University of Alberta. She did her residency and research training at Toronto Western Hospital, Stanford University, and Dalhousie University and later joined the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Dr. Gray was the founding Head of the University's Division of General Medicine within the Department of Medicine and a member of the founding Board of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine. She served as Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education and Associate Dean of Continuing Medical Education. She is currently Professor Emeritus – Medical Education, Medicine, and Pharmacology.

As a member of ASCPT for over twenty years, Dr. Gray has a long an distinguished record of service to ASCPT highlighted by her significant and ongoing contributions to clinical pharmacology education. She was the society's president in 2001 and has served on ASCPT's editorial board and as chair of several committees.

She previously served as president of several society's in Canada, and as Chair of the Standing Committees of both Postgraduate and Continuing Medical Education of the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges. Dr. Gray has recently completed terms as Vice-President, Fellowship Affairs, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and as founding Chair, Institute of Gender and Health Advisory Board (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) and currently is a member of several boards and committees.

Dr. Gray is the editor of two books and serves or has served on numerous editorial boards and as a reviewer for both peer-reviewed journals and granting agencies. She has been the recipient of several awards including the Commemorative Medal for the Queen's Jubilee, Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, the Order of Canada and two honorary doctorates (Dalhousie and Alberta).

The Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions for the Society.
