FDA ASSISTANT COMISSIONER FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH KATHLEEN UHL
TO RECEIVE HENRY W. ELLIOTT DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
will Honor Dr. Uhl at its 2008 Annual Meeting in Orlando
(Alexandria, VA) – Kathleen Uhl, MD, FAAFP, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, Maryland, has been selected by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) to receive the 2008 Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Uhl will receive the award on Wednesday, April 2, during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
The Henry W. Elliott Distinguished Service Award honors individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to the Society.
An exemplary volunteer leader, Dr. Uhl is dedicated to the Society's mission to promote and advance the science of human pharmacology and therapeutics. She has served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Society's Pharmacoepidemiology, Drug Safety and Outcomes Research Scientific Section and was a member of both the ASCPT Coordinating Committee on Scientific Sections and the Board of Directors from 2003 to 2006. Dr. Uhl has also participated on the Nominating, Scientific Program, and Finance Committees as well as the Strategic Plan and Strategic Awards Task Forces. She is currently a mentor in the Society's mentorship program and an Associate Editor for its scientific journal, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT). Dr. Uhl directed and contributed to the January 2008 Women's Health issue of CPT.
Dr. Uhl received her BA in Chemistry from Temple University and her MD from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, GA, followed by two fellowships: one in medical research at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D.C.; another in clinical pharmacology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Currently, Dr. Uhl is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Assistant Commissioner for Women's Health in the Office of Women's Health.
Dr. Uhl is a member of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She is Associate Professor of Family and Internal Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, an Editorial Board member for the Journal of Women's Health and the Archives of Drug Information, and a reviewer for Annals of Family Medicine, Drug Safety, and the New England Journal of Medicine.
