Title: Challenges in Dealing with Real-World Data
Date and Time: Wednesday, January 22, 2020, 2:00 pm ET
Speaker: Michael Liebman, PhD
Moderator: Caitrin McDonough, PhD
Description: The presentation will first review the different sources of real-world data, and their various applications in decision making and research. Three specific challenges will be discussed: 1) limitations in electronic health record (EHR) data and resulting impact on both clinical decision making and research; 2) limitations in current diagnostic procedures, e.g. both in theory and in practice; and 3) limitations in current clinical guidelines, e.g. both in quality and potential conflicts and how real-world data can impact these issues. The overall goal of the presentation is to raise awareness of these challenges and how they impact clinical decision making and research, and ultimately encourage participants to be more critical in the type of questions they ask with real-world data.
