Jia Li, PhD, Associate Director, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Arlington, Massachusetts

What are you looking forward to as a new vice chair of the Oncology (ONC) Community?
It is really my great honor to step into this position and serve the ONC Community. I have been working in the oncology field for many years, I know how hard it is to develop a successful oncology drug and how fast the technologies change. ASCPT is a great platform for excellent scientists to gather, to discuss, and to make sparks. I am very much looking forward to working together with the ONC Community Chair and team to bring insightful meetings and events to the ASCPT members.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
How to find the right dose for the right patient is and will continue to be the greatest challenge in my career life. The human biology system is so complicated, and the heterogenetic nature of the biology system also makes drug development more difficult. Determining the right dose for the right patient requires leveraging diverse scientific expertise, research methods, public health resources, and seamless communications between different stakeholders. Hopefully, with more emergence of cutting-edge technologies and great endeavors of the whole society, we will make great progress in the right dose for the right patient population selection in drug development.

When you aren't working, how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy reading, hiking, and traveling.

How do you keep focused and motivated?
I think curiosity makes me keep going forward. Keeping the big picture in mind helps me stay focused along the way.

Jia has been a member of ASCPT since 2016.
