Editors in Training

Editors in Training Program

The ASCPT Family of Journals cover a diverse range of topics within clinical pharmacology, translational science, pharmacometrics, and systems pharmacology. Each of the ASCPT journals will run independent consideration processes and select 1-2 Editors-in-Training.

The Editors-in-Training will be part of the core editorial teams and will be involved in the day-to-day manuscript consideration processes, including peer-review and decision-making, assist with strategic planning, and will be mentored by experienced members of the journals’ editorial teams. The role provides a unique training and personal development opportunity for outstanding early-career researchers to get closely involved in the running of a top peer-reviewed journal. At the same time, the editors-in-training will be responsible for helping the journals further their social media strategies as wells further develop the engagement of the ASCPT Early Career Community with the Family of Journals.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support editorial team with manuscript review and decision making
  • Contribute to solicitation of high-quality manuscripts
  • Perform research and analysis to support the development of content and strategy (for example citation metrics, identification of key topics and authors, competitor analysis)
  • Work with ASCPT staff on the journals’ social media strategies and grow the online presence of the journals and their research
  • Act as the journals’ liaison with the ASCPT Early Career community
  • Take part in editorial team meetings
  • Provide feedback to editors-in-chief and other members of editorial team
  • When appropriate, communicate, present and publish findings to a wider ASCPT audience (ASCPT Newsletter, Webinar, Annual Meeting, CPT, Twitter AMA, open Q&A session)
  • Maintain confidentiality and fully adhere to the ASCPT and all journal policies and code of conduct

Terms and Conditions:

  • Appointment is for a one-year term
  • No compensation will be provided. Essential expenses will be reimbursed subject to ASCPT (pre)-approval.
  • Applicants may only apply to one of the journals and must identify their journal of choice in their submission cover letter.

The call for applications for the next (5th) cohort of Editors-in-Training is now open and will close at EOB on June 20, 2024. If you wish to apply, please submit your CV and a one-page letter of intent to Deputy Managing Editor Alaina Webster at alaina@ascpt.org. Applicants may only apply to one journal and must indicate their journal of choice in their intent letter. Interviews will be held during the first two full weeks of July 2024, and the new cohort will begin their appointments in mid-September 2024. Please feel free to contact Alaina with questions.
