Title: Novel Insights into the Etiology and Treatment of Drug-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy
Date and Time: Thursday, December 12, 2019, 1:00 PM ET
Speakers: Tore Bjerregaard Stage, PhD, and Shuiying Hu, PhD
Moderator: Caroline Lee, PhD
Description: Drug-induced peripheral neuropathy remains one of the dose limiting adverse reactions of multiple widely used anticancer drugs. Despite extensive effort in the past several decades, optimized benefit-risk profile for oncology product with neurotoxicity was not achieved. This webinar aims at presenting currently available strategies and ongoing exploratory pre-clinical research efforts, as well as human clinical trials, aiming to define a means of preventing and/or treating this side effect. This presentation will include: State-of-the-art novel in vitro technologies (e.g. iPSC-derived sensory neurons and Schwann cells) available to evaluate drug-induced peripheral neurotoxicity; recent insights into the transport mechanisms involved in the uptake and accumulation of neurotoxic chemotherapeutics into the peripheral nervous system, and on the prevention of neuropathy by transport inhibitors, explored by animal model and human clinical trial.
