Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics  "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" themed issue

CALL FOR PAPERS

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (CPT) is inviting submissions for a special themed issue on “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” that is scheduled for publication in March of 2023. Building upon CPT’s mini-theme on the topic in October 2021 and based on positive feedback from our readers and authors, this issue will focus on the core role of clinical pharmacology in elucidating and harnessing diversity in disease biology and pharmacologic response to enable safe and effective use of therapeutic innovations in all patients. A major focus will be on enhancing diversity and inclusion in all phases of clinical trials including ethnic diversity and diversity in trial participants based on their geographical location, disease diagnosis, and demographic factors such as age and gender. Example topics that are in scope include but are not limited to:

  • Clinical pharmacology in vulnerable populations (e.g., neonates, geriatrics, pregnancy, intensive care)
  • Enhancing diversity in clinical trials: Innovations and case studies of applications
  • Transgender studies
  • Pharmacogenomic studies in minority populations
  • Precision dosing solutions including success stories of deployment in clinical use of therapeutics
  • Reverse translational studies (e.g., transcriptomics, metabolomics) to discover molecular predictors of treatment response and toxicity
  • Systems pharmacology, disease progression and machine learning/artificial intelligence models of population variability in disease trajectory and treatment response
  • Digital twins in precision medicine and drug development
  • Microbiome and clinical pharmacology
  • Incorporation of the patient voice in drug development strategy and clinical trial designs
  • Issues of global equity in access and evidence-based guidance for rational dosing of established and emerging therapeutic innovations
  • Regulatory science perspectives on inclusive drug development and access to medicines
  • Challenges and opportunities for clinical pharmacology research in minority populations
Research describing novel applications of translational technologies, data science, real world data, and patient-participatory strategies to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in the discovery, clinical development and use of therapeutics are particularly welcome.

Additionally, we also welcome perspectives from cross-sector (e.g., academia, industry, regulatory) contributors at all phases of their career journeys on enablers and opportunities to promote inclusive education, training, and leadership development of a diverse next generation of scientists and leaders in clinical pharmacology.

Submissions of original research are particularly encouraged, but reviews, position/white papers or shorter perspectives are also welcome. Educational, tutorial-style papers will also be considered. Please contact cpteditor@ascpt.org for details about manuscript types and format requirements, or review our Author Guidelines here

To be considered for publication in this high-profile themed issue, manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission and tracking system by September 1, 2022.

If you would like to make a pre-submission inquiry, please contact the CPT editorial office at cpteditor@ascpt.org.
