Bilal AbuAsal, PhD, Clinical Pharmacologist, US Food and Drug Administration, Silver Spring, MD
What excites you about serving in your role as the Life Cycle Management (LCM) Community Past Chair?
Building coalitions with different representatives and scientists from the pharmaceutical industry, government, and academia who are interested in the science of clinical pharmacology as a discipline to address the drug development challenges.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
Serving as a clinical pharmacology team leader at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave me the opportunity to contribute to the approval of multiple products treating neurodegenerative diseases with an unmet medical need. This includes diseases like Alzheimer's disease, ALS, DMD, and others.
What is the most important leadership lesson you have learned the hard way?
One of the most important leadership lessons is to talk less and listen more. A good leader knows when it is time to step back and listen to what team members and employees are trying to say and take those opinions into consideration when making decisions.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
In my free time, I like to play with my kids and travel with my family. I like to meet and read about individuals from different cultures, occupations, and life goals.
What was your childhood dream job?
To be honest, I was not clear about a certain dream job as a child. However, I always wanted to do something related to computer and/or medical science.
