CALL FOR PAPERS

Clinical and Translational Science invites submissions for a special collection dedicated to identifying, assessing, validating, and utilizing biomarkers for drug development and clinical use.

Biomarkers have transformed the landscape of clinical and translational sciences and are accelerating the progress towards targeted and precision medicine. Breakthrough technological advancement coupled with novel data analysis methods is driving innovations in biomarker identification and validation and is increasingly making biomarkers crucial for drug development and improving patient outcomes. To highlight the potential of biomarkers we welcome original research articles, brief reports, mini-reviews, reviews, tutorials, perspectives, and position papers that explore or contribute to the field of biomarkers in drug development, translational science, and clinical pharmacology. Submissions may focus on the evaluation of all categories of biomarkers (BEST) and biomarker research, including discovery, analytical validation, clinical validation, and qualification across modalities such as genetic, molecular, histology, imaging, physiology, digital and multi-component biomarker approaches. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Biomarker Discovery: Novel methods, technologies, and platforms for discovery and characterization of biomarkers Biomarker Development, Analytical and Clinical Validation and Qualification: Advancements in analytical techniques as well as validation and qualification.
  • Clinical Applications and Precision Medicine: The role of biomarkers in disease diagnostics, prognostics, treatment selection, therapeutic monitoring, and integrating biomarkers into personalized treatment strategies for improved patient outcomes.
  • Biomarkers in Drug Development: Contributions of biomarkers to therapeutic strategy selection, clinical trials, dose optimization and drug approvals.
  • Disease-Specific Biomarkers: Research on biomarkers for specific conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases and others.
  • Innovations and Challenges in Biomarker Research: Emerging technologies, regulatory science or considerations, barriers to clinical implementation, and addressing reproducibility in biomarker science.

Please contact ctseditor@ascpt.org for details about manuscript types and format requirements, or review our Author Guidelines here.

Any relevant manuscripts submitted before August 1, 2025 would be considered for the collection. Authors who have a relevant submission but cannot meet the August 1 deadline can inquire with the editorial office (ctseditor@ascpt.org) for a potential extension.

If you would like to make a pre-submission inquiry, please contact the CTS editorial office at ctseditor@ascpt.org.
