What does being a Low-to-Middle Income Country (LMIC) Accelerator Cohort Member mean to you?
Being a member of the ASCPT LMIC Accelerator Inaugural Cohort is a privilege and a profound opportunity for me to advance my knowledge, skills, research, and practices in the field of clinical pharmacology. It is not just a grant to attend a conference; rather, it is a structured learning, training, mentorship, and networking program that enables its participants to engage with ASCPT's global network of eminent experts across the drug delivery, development, regulation, and utilization spectrum.

What are you looking forward to in your time as part of the LMIC Accelerator Cohort?
In my time as part of this cohort, I intend to build strategic collaborations with global professionals working on various fronts of clinical pharmacology: from academia to industry to healthcare settings. The exchange of knowledge, experiences, and ideas would help me gain valuable insight and foster meaningful collaborations in order to seek potential solutions and avenues for the advancement of Clinical Pharmacology in my country, as well as for professional development for myself.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
The greatest challenge that I face as a physician-pharmacologist in an LMIC like Pakistan is being limited to the academic sector. It has impeded us from integration in clinical settings and playing our part in enhancing the quality of medical care. This has essentially divested the specialty of clinical pharmacology of its pivotal role in optimizing healthcare in Pakistan.

How do you keep focused and motivated?
They say, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work another day in your life.” Pharmacology is a passion for me and making my passion my profession has been the key factor in keeping me focused and motivated.

Anum has been a member of ASCPT since 2024.
