Interest in founding this group stemmed from the ASCPT Career Connect Session: “Breaking Barriers: Women in Science and Their Paths to Success” held on June 26, 2024. ASCPT assembled a diverse group of professional women to address various topics of interest to women in their career development. Based on feedback from participants, the session was well received and considered extremely valuable. Contributors to the session were unanimously in favor of the formation of a Women in Science Identity Group to build on the momentum generated by this session. They are joined by other ASCPT members who have expressed enthusiasm for this effort.

Goal and Objectives

The goal of the Women in Science Identity Group is to support and empower women in the field of clinical pharmacology by fostering a collaborative community, promoting personal and career development, and advocating for gender equity within the ASCPT scientific community.

To meet this goal, the group seeks to accomplish the following objectives:

• Conduct regular outreach to ASCPT membership to introduce and invite participation in the group by organizing and hosting Women in Science virtual networking events, workshops, and seminars to connect and support women within ASCPT, facilitating professional relationships and mentorship in a range of topics (see below for specifics)
• Facilitate formation of an ASCPT Women in Science Identity Group LinkedIn Site to foster allyship and engagement of members
• Provide a centralized repository of resources for members, including articles, research papers, and career advice, tailored to the needs and interests of women in science
• Identify the potential to create a messaging platform organized by topic areas where participants can share their experiences, challenges, and successes, and advocate for initiatives that promote gender equity and support women’s advancement in the field
• Recognize and celebrate the achievements of women within ASCPT to highlight their contributions and inspire others
  • Highlight the accomplishments of women in science via a regular acknowledgement message campaign and/or LinkedIn post
• Promote and support members of the Identity Group in becoming active leaders within ASCPT
• Cultivate a deep sense of belonging and provide a safe space where every member feels seen, heard, and valued
• Promote and support inclusivity within the group by addressing intersectional issues and ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented and valued
• Establish a mentorship/sponsorship network

Together, we aspire to create a future where every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is respected, valued, and empowered to live their fullest life.
