What does being the Oncology Community (ONC) Vice Chair mean to you?
ASCPT was an incredibly useful resource for me when I was a student/trainee, so being the Oncology Community Co-Vice Chair for this term now feels like a full-circle moment. Having the opportunity to contribute to the organization that helped me learn more about clinical pharmacology as a student (and throughout the rest of my career!) is what initially drew me to join the Oncology Steering Committee. With the opportunity to serve as Co-Vice Chair for this term, I look forward to working on new mentorship/networking initiatives and working together with the Steering Committee to bring topics of interest to webinars/sessions/etc. for the community.

What is your favorite part of being the Oncology Community Vice Chair?
The most valuable aspect of this community to me is the opportunity to bring like-minded individuals together—we can learn so much from connecting with others across different areas of expertise/perspectives who all share a common interest in oncology and clinical pharmacology. I enjoy working with our amazing Oncology Steering Committee, learning from them, and getting to know everyone's strengths/contributions that they bring to the team.

What is the most important leadership lesson you have learned the hard way?
What you say is important, but how you deliver your message can have equal, if not more, importance. Working with the Oncology Steering Committee helps me work on communication skills and build confidence in speaking with and leading teams.

Do you have a favorite tip or trick that you want to share with fellow members?
As an early-career member/junior scientist, reading as much as I can helps me develop a foundation of fundamentals as well as keep up to date with emerging topics in the field. Whenever I'm faced with a question or topic that I am not familiar with, I make an effort to read up on the literature and use that as an opportunity to learn something new. Reading landmark/highly recognized papers helps me prepare for situations when the information is needed, and reading textbooks helps me learn foundational material in an organized way.

When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
Explore New York City, learn photography, read (for fun!), and spend time with friends/family. Music was also a big part of my life growing up, so I am always looking for ways to play again.

Dr. Tran has been a member of ASCPT since 2020.
