What is the Most Important Leadership Lesson You Learned the Hard Way?
In my brief tenure within the industry, I have realized that ownership is the ultimate motivator. The best way to make everyone truly part of a team is to provide ownership to individuals. In the beginning, it can be very hard to delegate, for we all have a fear of being perceived negatively, however, I realized, with time, we best serve the team if we are all equally invested in it.

Who Has Inspired You in Your Career?
I was very fortunate to have had extremely strong individuals throughout my life. Beginning with my mother and my graduate school mentors (Ellen and Swati) – all are strong women who have shaped my thoughts and my outlook in life. Within the industry, the first person that pops into my head is Ana Ruiz. She was my mentor at Pfizer where I was a summer intern in the clinical pharmacology group. Again, a very strong leader; she influenced me with her strong work ethics and leadership style.

Do You Have a Favorite Tip or Trick for Clinical Practice or Research that You Want to Share with Fellow Members?
I am sure we have all heard this many times, yet I feel we may not practice it as much. I really believe we should not be afraid to reach out. We are not experts in every field, it is best to just phone/email your colleagues and talk. During the pandemic, it was difficult for many of us to pick up the phone amid all the Zoom fatigue, however, with folks going back into work, hopefully, we can stop by offices and have more in-person interactions.

When You Aren’t Working, How Do You Spend Your Free Time?
We thoroughly enjoy spending time outdoors. We live in the Bay area in California, which is home to many beautiful trails, amazing food spots, and vineyards.

Vaishnavi has been a member of ASCPT since 2019.
