What excites you about serving in your role as the Global Health (GH) community past chair?
After serving in the GH Community leadership for the past 2 years, what excites me most about my last year in the Past Chair role is the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing legacy of the Community. As past chair, I now have a better understanding of the ASCPT network, its members and leadership, and have lesser day-to-day responsibilities within the community. This perspective and space are allowing me to think thoughtfully about the years ahead and contribute in new ways, such as our initiative to advance engagement of low- and middle-income scientists in our Community and the organization at large. What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
It is hard to name just one accomplishment. My first “proudest” professional accomplishment was after my first-author paper was cited. I had just finished my BS at the time, and it was the first time I truly felt that my work was actually having an impact in the greater scientific and clinical community. What I am most proud of professionally today is the thoughtfulness, patience, courage, and authenticity I put into selecting my first professional appointment. After many years of being a trainee, I feel proud of where I landed and the work I put into getting here – both professionally and personally.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
When I am not working, you can usually find me doing something active outside. I spend several hours a week riding my bike, running, or even walking outside. Sometimes I am training for something, but mostly I do it for the pure joy. It provides an avenue for me to challenge myself or relax, whatever I am feeling like that day!
What was your childhood dream job?
I always dreamed about being a back-up dancer. I have a terrible singing voice but love to dance. As a young child, I would frequently make up my own dance routines to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc. and put on shows for my family.
Kendra has been a member of ASCPT since 2017.
