Saba Tariq

Saba Tariq, PhD, Professor/Research Scientist, University of Faisalabad, Faisalabad, Pakistan.

Who has inspired you in your career?
My greatest inspiration has been my mother, whose resilience taught me perseverance and compassion. My sister, Dr. Sundus Tariq, has also been a constant motivator through her dedication to medicine. I am deeply influenced by our Patron-in-Chief at the University of Faisalabad, Mian Muhammad Hanif, whose vision and commitment to empowering women in Pakistan has been transformative. I also admire Professor Shakila Thangaratinam for her pioneering work in maternal health, which reinforces my belief in research that truly saves lives.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
The greatest challenge was breaking barriers as a woman scientist from a developing country, striving to make an impact on a global stage. Navigating limited resources and societal expectations taught me resilience and adaptability. Today, working internationally with institutions like the University of Birmingham and contributing to cutting-edge research in patient safety and maternal health stands as evidence in overcoming these challenges.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am leading transformative research on maternal health, including receiving international grants and contributing to global studies such as the Global Burden of Disease Project. These achievements are not just personal milestones; they represent progress in making healthcare safer and more equitable for women worldwide.

Why did you decide to join ASCPT?
I joined ASCPT because it represents everything I value – innovation, collaboration and excellence in clinical pharmacology. Being part of this global network gives me the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of therapeutics, exchange knowledge with brilliant minds and work together to help each other make a real difference in the world.

How do you keep focused and motivated?
My motivation comes from the lives that research impacts. Knowing that my work can improve patient safety and maternal outcomes keeps me focused even during the most challenging of times. I set clear goals, celebrate small victories and constantly remind myself why I started, because science can change lives.

Dr. Tariq has been a member of ASCPT since 2024.
