Good Science Isn’t a Luxury, It’s a Necessity: Broad Scientific Coalition Urges Upholding of Foundational Research Principles
From Abigail W. Gorman, MBA, Chief Executive Officer
ASCPT has again joined a broad coalition of scientific organizations emphasizing to Director Michael Kratsios, at the White House Office of Science and Technology (OSTP), the importance of maintaining scientific integrity and established standards in the face of recent US federal policy changes.
The letter (click here to view the full letter) stresses the critical importance of maintaining the integrity of America's scientific ecosystem, which is built on established norms and values that have driven progress for centuries. Along with 90 other organizations, we are urging policymakers to strengthen scientific integrity by upholding foundational principles such as empirical rigor, objectivity, transparency, peer review, reproducibility, and continuous self-correction. Any directives that bypass expert judgment or impose rigid criteria risk stifling innovation, discouraging research, and eroding public trust.
By supporting and upholding the integrity of our existing scientific ecosystem, we can collectively ensure that federally funded science remains a vital and trusted resource for informing policy, fostering innovation, and addressing the nation's most pressing challenges. |
