How has your membership in ASCPT benefited your career?
Being a member of ASCPT as a student and now as an early career professional has been so important to finding my way in the field. The networking and collaboration opportunities through volunteering for activities like the Career Connect have allowed me to interact with professionals across academia, industry, and government. It is inspiring to get to know the exceptional leaders and learn from their experience. So, if you have not volunteered yet, do it!
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
Much to my spouse's dismay, I am a DIY junkie. I always have some sort of refinishing, painting, or building project going on. I also really enjoy cooking. We are members of a great farm cooperative, and every week the box has a great mix of produce that I must find imaginative ways to use fast enough.
How do you keep focused and motivated?
Taking time away from work to find different ways to be creative. I am one of those people with a million tabs open in my brain, and stepping away from my computer to do something else lets my brain mull over the work projects so when I come back, the ideas have crystallized.
What was your childhood dream job?
I always said I wanted to work for the US Food and Drug Administration, but in my naiveté, I did not understand the intersection of academia, industry, and government. So, in reality, I am lucky enough to be doing my childhood dream job. I love that I get to spend every day working to make medication safer and more effective. As an academic, I have a lot of opportunities to engage directly with patients and see the importance of the work that we do.
