What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I was taken by complete surprise when I was first notified as a recipient of the ASCPT 2022 Presidential Trainee award. After the initial shock, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. There was so much time that went into planning and writing the abstract in order to construct a complete yet succinct story. Additionally, discussing my work through online poster presentations was a riveting experience.
I am proud of this award because it reflects my own growth and a symbol of the work, effort, and dedication that I have put into advancing my proficiency as a scientist. This award is a representation of my continual effort and progress, and a reminder of my capability as a person and a researcher.
I am honored to have the work recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Who has inspired you in your career?
I consider myself very fortunate to have encountered so many kind and inspirational mentors throughout my career. They include my professors from college, my friends, and my faculty advisors. Each of these individuals has inspired me in different ways and helped me gain the necessary skills and experiences as a clinical scientist.
Specifically, I am grateful to have Craig Lee, PharmD, PhD, as a mentor. He has inspired me through his tireless passion, empathetic leadership, and vast patience. He taught me that success can be achieved with consistent preparation and unwavering perseverance. Most importantly he believed in me, which helped me gain the confidence to believe in myself.
When you aren’t working, how do you spend your free time?
What I look forward to the most is finding small moments that consistently bring joy or “small but certain happiness.” I love reading books and watching movies. I also enjoy exploring nature, chasing sunsets, and spending time with friends and family. I think that any moment can become extraordinary; it just depends on your perspective.
What was your childhood dream job?
I think for a brief moment, I wanted to be a filmmaker and study cinematography. I love the art of visual storytelling, the beauty of being able to convey emotion based on the composition of a scene. I’m observant and analytical, and I wanted my art to convey moments that made up the human experience. I think that is why I chose to pursue a career in pharmacy. I am able to personally witness humanity through healthcare. Healthcare providers devote so much of their lives to helping someone in need, and these are the moments that capture the essence of humanity.
