What does being a 2024 presidential trainee mean to you?
I was so honored to receive a 2024 Presidential Trainee Award. Knowing the history of recipients, and getting to know the fellow Presidential Trainees, I was happy just to be mentioned in the same category as them. It was also an honor to have my work recognized. That support has only served as further motivation to pursue my scientific passion. The Presidential Trainee Award is an honor and an experience that I will cherish forever.
What was your favorite part about attending the annual meeting?
My favorite part of the Annual Meeting is seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The ASCPT community has always been so open, friendly, and supportive of trainees that the people attending the Meeting have become the highlight for me. Additionally, there were so many interesting talks! Dr. Catriona Waitt's talk is one that I will remember for a long time.
Who has inspired you in your career?
My little sister is a two-time cancer survivor and serves as a big inspiration for me. Seeing her resilience and toughness has served as motivation for me to realize that I can accomplish things that may seem hard or daunting. It has also served as a motivation to develop new and optimized therapies for diseases that affect patients worldwide. Additionally, my mentors are a big inspiration to me, specifically seeing how much time and effort they sacrifice for their trainees' benefit motivates me to work just as hard.
What was your childhood dream job?
My childhood dream job was actually to be a pharmacist. Ever since middle school, I can remember wanting to pursue pharmacy as my career. Once I started my bachelor's program in pharmaceutical science, I realized that my passion is more in the science behind medicine, and I changed my focus to pharmaceutical research and have never looked back.
