What does being a 2025 Presidential Trainee mean to you?
I am deeply honored to be recognized and to represent the future of clinical practitioners in research as a medical student. This opportunity to contribute to scientific advancement while striving to improve patient care is something I once never imagined possible for myself. However, through the unconditional support of mentors, family, and friends, I not only achieved my goal of integrating research into a clinically focused career but also gained a newfound confidence in my abilities and potential.
What has been the greatest challenge in your career thus far?
Navigating through the ever-evolving field of medicine and its components while balancing the personal growth and wellness necessary for success has been a journey many years in the making. Medicine is a demanding and dynamic profession, and learning how to grow within it without losing sight of my own well-being has been challenging. As a future physician, many think the biggest priority is your patient, which is undoubtedly true; however, I have come to discover that to truly prioritize my patients and provide them with the best care, I must also prioritize myself. Rather than a detour in my path, learning to seek guidance and practicing self-reflection is a necessary component for growth and continual resilience toward becoming a physician.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
When I am not practicing or studying medicine, I like to spend my time doing hot yoga, playing with my cat and new kitten, and spending time cooking with my partner. Having a cuddly and furry friend has been great for my mental health!
What was your childhood dream job?
Oddly enough, as a 5-year-old, I wanted to be a sonogram technician after watching my mom’s ultrasound appointment with my younger brother. Younger me would be so proud that I went into the healthcare field and am helping patients (including new parents and babies) daily and allowing them the opportunity to achieve their greatest potential too!
