Sarah Ridge, PhD, Policy Analyst, US Food and Drug Administration, Durham, North Carolina

What is your favorite part of being the Regulatory Science (RS) Community Vice Chair?
My favorite part of being the RS Vice Chair is the opportunity to regularly engage with committee members from around the globe who are dedicated to promoting regulatory science and developing ideas that would benefit the broader ASCPT community.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
The transition from translational research on the bench to regulatory science and policy development in clinical pharmacology has been a learning curve in my career. However, I have been lucky to have received exceptional mentorship and developed a passion for the field. I am also motivated by the impact of the work and the dedication of my colleagues and collaborators.

Do you have a favorite tip or trick for research that you want to share with fellow members?
My favorite tip for conducting research and developing ideas is to listen to the perspective of others in the field and ask probing questions. Scientific research is a collaborative effort, and one interesting conversation can lead to a spark of inspiration and the seed for new discovery.

When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
I spend most of my free time looking after my two young boys. Having a 2-year-old and a newborn does not leave time for much else, but I try to keep active and go for a run when I can. I also find it important to keep regular contact with friends and family.

Dr. Ridge has been a member of ASCPT since 2020.
