Why do you choose to stay a member of ASCPT?
There are several benefits associated with ASCPT membership that have contributed to my decision to remain with the organization. As a member, I have access to high-caliber clinical pharmacology meetings and webinars, as well as articles through CPT and CTS. In addition, ASCPT offers opportunities to present my research via review articles and poster presentations. I also appreciate the many networking opportunities, such as connecting with colleagues and clients at the Annual Meeting and serving as a mentor in the Low-to-Middle Income Country program. Plus, the ASCPT staff are great to work with; I had several occasions to collaborate with Lisa and Mary on webinars, podcasts, and a session at the Meeting.
How has your membership in ASCPT benefited your career?
With an educational background in biochemistry and physiology, I had no formal pharmacology training. So, I relied on ASCPT webinars, meetings, and articles for my “on-the-job” learning. Now, as Senior Director of Scientific Affairs at Celerion, I leverage this gained knowledge to support the design of early-phase clinical pharmacology studies from scientific, operational, and regulatory perspectives.
Who has inspired you in your career?
For me, it is more of a what than a who. I first knew I wanted to be a scientist in grade 10. I had a chemistry assignment to research the synthesis and chemical composition of a medication. I remember how much I enjoyed digging through periodicals and journals to find relevant articles. This sparked my love for research, and I know – then and there – that I wanted to be a scientist.
How do you keep focused and motivated?
Post-it notes and “to-do” lists help me stay focused. Exploring new topics fuels my passion for learning and keeps me motivated. I am also inspired by the everyday work we do, the development of new drugs, and their potential impact on patients' lives.
Dr. Paglialunga has been a member of ASCPT since 2021.
