Emily Cicali, PharmD, Clinical Associate Professor, University of Florida, Ocala, Florida, USA
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
Having established University of Florida Health's virtual outpatient PGx consult clinic, MyRx. The clinic is run by the College of Pharmacy, and we are able to help patients and their doctors understand their PGx results. In addition to helping patients, it provides a plethora of learning opportunities for students and postdoctoral trainees.
Do you have a favorite tip or trick for clinical practice or research that you want to share with fellow members?
Keeping organized is key for me. My favorite tip would be to walk into your workday with a plan of what you aim to accomplish that day and in what order. It helps to keep you focused, and it feels really great at the end of the day to cross those things off your to-do list. I personally like to take a half hour at the end of my day to plan for the following day based on what I did not get through, what is still needed to do, and when I will do said things, accounting for any scheduled meetings.
What is your favorite society memory?
Attending the poster session at my very first ASCPT conference in 2016 with my mentor, Jacques Turgeon, PhD. I was amazed at his ability to quickly review the poster and ask the presenter the most thoughtful and challenging questions that sparked thought-provoking discussion. I still strive to accomplish this when I attend student/trainee posters.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
All of my free time is devoted to my family, my two children, and my husband. Our children are young, so our time is spent being active – swimming, running/chasing, playing superheroes, and dressing up. It is a busy and fun season of life. I also enjoy gardening, which my kids love to help with.
How do you keep focused and motivated?
I am surrounded by highly motivated and intelligent colleagues at my workplace. Their motivation keeps me inspired and motivated to perform at the highest professional level as I am able to.
Dr. Cicali has been a member of ASCPT since 2015.
