What does being a 2026 Presidential Trainee Award Recipient mean to you?
Receiving this award is both an honor and a meaningful recognition of my training in clinical pharmacology and translational research. It reflects my efforts to integrate clinical trial evidence to generate insights that are both mechanistically grounded and clinically actionable. It also represents the strong mentorship and collaborative environment that have shaped my development from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and my Merck Co-Op Education.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of developing research that bridges clinical trial data and real-world evidence to inform treatment optimization. My work applies quantitative and causal modeling approaches to understand treatment response heterogeneity, with the goal of moving drug selection and individualized therapeutic strategies into routine clinical practice.
Who has inspired you in your career?
Mentors at Merck and Michigan have deeply inspired me in clinical pharmacology. My mentors emphasize the integration of quantitative rigor with clinical relevance and development. Their ability to translate trial-based evidence into real-world decision-making, while maintaining a strong pharmacologic foundation, has strongly influenced my research direction.
What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
One of the greatest challenges has been integrating evidence across domains, clinical trials, real-world data, and mechanistic pharmacology. Each source has distinct assumptions and limitations; aligning them into a coherent framework for inference and decision-making requires careful methodological and clinical consideration.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
Outside of research, I enjoy singing, recording songs on social media, and participating in a cappella performances. It provides a creative outlet and a way to stay balanced while engaging with a collaborative community.
Dr. Zheng has been a member of ASCPT since 2025.
