I am ASCPT M Shahin
Mohamed H. Shahin, PhD, Manager, Clinical Pharmacology Lead, Pfizer, Groton, CT

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am very proud and fortunate to work as a clinical pharmacologist. Compared with many other professions, clinical pharmacologists are lucky in that they are well‐positioned to impact patient lives by optimizing drug efficacy while reducing adverse events. One of my greatest points of pride as a clinical pharmacologist is my contribution to the scientific community by publishing more than 35 peer‐reviewed research articles and more than 40 conference proceedings cited more than 1,700 times by scientists worldwide, according to Google Scholar. This accomplishment encourages me to work harder and increase my research contributions to the scientific community to help develop breakthrough medicine that changes patients’ lives.

What is your favorite Society memory?
I remember the first time I attended the ASCPT Annual Meeting; I was fortunate to be one of the ASCPT Presidential Trainee Award recipients. After receiving this award, I asked my mentor at this time, Dr. Julie Johnson, how many times I could receive this award? She smiled and said, keep up the good work—the harder you work, the more successful you will be in securing future ASCPT Presidential Trainee Awards. This advice motivated me to work harder, and during my research training at the University of Florida, I was privileged to receive the ASCPT Presidential Trainee Award five times in addition to receiving the David Goldestien Trainee Award, which recognizes the highest scoring trainee abstract. These represent some of my favorite memories at the ASCPT.

When you aren’t working, how do you spend your free time?
I love spending my free time with my family. Serving as a soccer coach for my 4 and 6‐year‐old kids is so much fun, which I really enjoy doing during my free time.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Before joining Pharmacy School, I was a professional soccer player. After entering Pharmacy School, it was really hard to keep up with the training and the traveling commitments with my soccer team; therefore, I quit and chose to be a pharmacist instead! However, I still keep some of my soccer skills as I try to play soccer at least once a week!

Dr. Shahin has been a member of ASCPT since 2012.
