Tell us about your ASCPT 2022 Annual Meeting Experience:
I submitted my abstract to the ASCPT 2022 Meeting for a chance to learn from scientists, clinicians, and professionals at the forefront of translational science. When I attended the meeting I enjoyed the lively discussions at the poster sessions and talks. This helped me refine my project and I learned new creative methodologies that I plan to apply. One of my favorite programs from the meeting was the “Artificial Intelligence: From Buzzword to Useful Tool in Clinical Pharmacology” session. It was great in bringing together academic, industry, and US Food and Drug Administration leaders with a variety of experiences and insights on the field in which I am working towards a career.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I was extremely proud to present at the ASCPT 2022 Poster Walk Session: “Pharmacogenomics – Latest Research from Bench to Bedside.” I was excited to speak alongside those inspiring researchers and clinicians at the forefront of translational pharmacogenomics that inspired me to submit my abstract.
How do you keep focused and motivated?
My mentors and my lab mates keep me focused and motivated! I am lucky to work with curious, rigorous, and visionary people. I like coming into the lab to debate the science with our group and to pursue projects with the goal of ultimately improving patient care.
Who has inspired you in your career?
The incredible mentors with whom I worked in my time as a research fellow at the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism during my undergrad, and now at the Mayo Clinic, inspire me. Their patience in helping me learn and excitement around scientific discovery is a source inspiration.
What is your favorite Society memory?
The Mentor Monday sessions! I am grateful to have learned from mentors who are enthusiastic about sharing their experiences. I gained insights into what clinical pharmacology looks like in various settings (industry, academia, government, consulting).
When you aren't working, how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy playing soccer, rock climbing, and trail running with friends.
Caroline has been a member of ASCPT since 2020.
