What is your favorite society memory?
My favorite Society memory is from 2019, when I joined ASCPT for the first time as a fourth-year PhD student. During that meeting, I met several inspiring people – one of them being Dr. Paul Malik, who at the time was also still a PhD student. Over the years, we stayed in touch and collaborated on various PBPK projects aimed at developing better drugs for children and pregnant women. In fact, one of those projects resulted in the invitation of working on a recent ASCPT webinar together, focusing on PBPK modeling of large molecules in special populations. ASCPT has not only been a great place to meet new people, but also to build lasting professional connections and even friendships.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of leading a truly international and multidisciplinary effort to develop model-informed precision dosing for pregnant women and children. Together with a team of pharmacometricians, clinical pharmacists, pharmacologists, pediatricians, obstetricians, PhD candidates, and both master's and bachelor's students, we create dosing strategies that are not only evidence-based but also directly implemented in our own hospital as well as in national and international guidelines. It is a wonderful example of collaboration across disciplines, all with the goal of improving care for vulnerable populations.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career?
For me, the greatest challenge is balancing my clinical responsibilities as a clinical pharmacist, clinical pharmacologist, and toxicologist (ERT) in a large academic hospital with my research and teaching activities. There are simply never enough hours in a day. However, I would not want it any other way – it is exactly this combination that makes my job the best job in the world.

When you are not working, how do you spend your time?
I like to do a lot of sports in my free time. Some are typical Dutch sports like road cycling or long-distance ice skating (in winter), but also less typical Dutch sports like skiing!

Dr. Mian has been a member of ASCPT since 2024.
