What does receiving the 2023 Leon I. Goldberg early investigator award mean to you?
I am honored to receive the Leon I. Goldberg Early Investigator Award. I am proud of our work focused on optimizing the use of pediatric therapeutics, and I am humbled that my peers believed I was worthy of this recognition.

Who has inspired you in your career?
I have had outstanding mentors that have served as role models for me. At the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy, my PhD major advisor, the late Dr. Hartmut Derendorf, inspired me to pursue a career in clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics. Also, Drs. Julie Johnson and Reginald Frye were mentors that motivated me to pursue PhD training after pharmacy school. As a fellow in the UNC-Duke Collaborative Clinical Pharmacology T32 Postdoctoral Training Program and a junior faculty member, Drs. Michael Cohen-Wolkowiez and Kim Brouwer inspired me and played an important role in my early career success.

What is your favorite society memory?
One of my favorite ASCPT memories is attending my first ASCPT Annual Meeting in 2012 in National Harbor, Maryland. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with colleagues and present a poster.

When you aren't working, how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy spending time with family, reading, using my Peloton bike, traveling, and watching stand-up comedy shows.

What was your childhood dream job?
I wanted to be a pharmacist. In high school, I had the opportunity to work in a hospital pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, which solidified that it was a career I wanted to pursue.

Dr. Gonzalez has been a member of ASCPT since 2008.
